Based on a history of providing engineering excellence and high performance delivery, UNG were appointed as Principal Contractor for this development on a Design & Build basis.

The existing site is a multifunctional use building comprising of a two storey office building and network building formed by a mixture of brick and stone external walls.

This development was the first phase of a long range plan which will ultimately see a new data centre room build providing a long-range growth plan for the site.

Phase 1 development was to construct a new power room housing a new 96kW N-N DC system complete with 8 strings of batteries providing a 2-hour autonomy period. The DC system is supplied by 2 new 250A panel boards connecting into the existing infrastructure. The DC system itself serves a newly installed 1200A A&B wall mounted distribution cabinet ready to accommodate growth for the new room build.

As the site is a live broadband and TV routing site, maintaining the existing infrastructure was critical to ensure business continuity for our Client therefore the detailed design was contingent around this requirement. Due to this, our design team provided a solution where we could isolate existing boards without disrupting client services and ensuring no live electrical work was undertaken.

On completion of the power upgrade works, UNG were then appointed to design and build a new technical room to accommodate 22 racks in a modular approach with a view to expanding in the future. The facility includes inverter driven DX all air direct free cooling systems ensuring best in-class efficiencies are achieved. Rack level power monitoring was provided along with our OREO Room controller providing visibility and management of IT Power and the environment via remote dashboards.

The room is also equipped with a FM200 Fire Suppression System, CCTV, Intruder Alarms and Access Control as part of the security specification.
